Means of transportation to get to your departure point in Canberra

Before boarding your FlixBus service north to Sydney, you’ll need to reach your departure stop in Canberra. The city is compact, and we suggest these transport options:

  • Buses and light rail – Operated by Transport Canberra, with light rail services running every 5–15 minutes from Gungahlin to the city and frequent Rapid bus routes across key suburbs. Public transport is free on Fridays.
  • Taxis and rideshare – Reliable and widely available across the city, these are the most convenient choices if you’re carrying luggage or travelling directly from your accommodation.

Getting Around Sydney

On arrival in Sydney, exploring the city is easy thanks to its extensive transport system that covers the CBD, suburbs, and surrounding regions:

  • Trains – The City Circle line connects Circular Quay, Town Hall, Central Station, and other key CBD stops. Intercity trains from Central reach destinations such as the Blue Mountains, Newcastle, and Kiama.
  • NightRide buses – Running between midnight and 4:30 a.m., they replace trains overnight and provide good coverage across the city.
  • Ferries – Sydney’s ferries are as scenic as they are practical, linking Circular Quay to Manly, Taronga Zoo, and other harbourside suburbs.
  • Opal card and contactless – Use an Opal card, debit or credit card, or mobile device for payment on trains, buses, ferries, and light rail. Cards can be purchased at stations, airports, and retail outlets.
  • Taxis and rideshare – Available citywide and useful for direct trips, especially with luggage or outside public transport hours.
